What is a Giclee Print?
Giclee (pronounced “ghee-clay”) literally means “that which is sprayed.” The first known use of this term was from a newsletter for ArtExpo California, Fall 1991. It is a process whereby original artwork is digitized into a computer readable format. The artist then works with a high resolution computer screen to render the digital image completely accurate. Then the image is printed using inkjet technologies. Thus Giclee is a very general term. More important is to ensure archival inks are used, with proper UV protection, so the resulting prints will last many decades.
